Haas Automation Goes Green with Solar

To reduce the company’s carbon footprint and help preserve the environment, Haas Automation, Inc., recently installed a 1-megawatt solar generating system at its manufacturing facility in Oxnard, CA. The roof-mounted, grid-linked photovoltaic (PV) system came online last December, and currently produces an average of 3200 to 3500 kWh of clean electricity every day.

Solar panels use energy from the sun to generate power through a process that doesn’t emit any greenhouse gas into the atmosphere. Because the Oxnard area averages 276 days of sunshine each year, solar energy is a perfect option for Haas Automation, allowing the company to reduce its carbon emissions, improve the environment, and cut energy costs.

The solar installation at Haas Automation boasts 3204 solar panels, and will generate an estimated 1.25 million kilowatt hours of clean energy per year. The renewable energy generated by the system will offset an estimated 860 metric tons of carbon dioxide each year – equivalent to the electricity used by 120 average American homes annually, or taking 181 passenger vehicles off the road.

Although the system is not large enough to power the entire Haas facility at this point, it has proven to be a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way to lower the company’s energy footprint. It is estimated that the solar panels will save the Haas Automation more than $500,000 a year, making the move to green not only environmentally friendly, but bottom-line friendly, as well.
